Xero vs MYOB vs Wootz: NZ Accounting Apps Compared for 2026

An honest NZ comparison of Xero, MYOB and Wootz: plan prices, limits, multi-currency, payroll and which suits your business.

By the Wootz team · Oct 2026 · 6 min read

Xero and MYOB are the two names most Kiwi businesses hear first. Wootz is the newer, lower-cost option built in Auckland. We make one of these products, so we have stuck to published prices and said where the others are the better choice.

The short answer

  • Choose Xero if you want direct bank feeds and a big ecosystem of connected apps, and your accountant already uses it.
  • Choose MYOB if you are already established on AccountRight, or need its job and time billing tools on a Windows computer.
  • Choose Wootz if you are a sole trader or small team who wants lower costs, with multi-currency and te reo Māori invoicing included.

Invoicing limits

Xero Ignite limits you to 20 invoices and 5 bills. MYOB lists unlimited invoices and quotes on its plans. Compare this before you compare headline prices, because a limit can push you up a plan.

Multi-currency

Xero includes multi-currency from Comprehensive at $117/mo. MYOB offers it on AccountRight, which needs a Windows computer. Wootz includes it on Blade at $12/mo.

Payroll

Xero charges $4 per person on Ignite and includes one person on Grow. MYOB charges $3 per employee paid, with Lite limited to two. Wootz includes payroll and five team members on Forge at $29/mo, with no payroll on Blade.

Bank feeds

This is where Xero and MYOB lead. Both offer direct bank feeds. Wootz uses secure CSV import, so you never share bank credentials, but you do import statements yourself.

AI assistants

All three now have AI. Xero has JAX, MYOB has Ask Iris and Wootz has its private assistant, covered in how Wootz AI works. Features vary by plan, so check what your plan includes.
